My Students

In fourth grade we read a lot of terrific literature, but unfortunately we've been working with limited resources for a long time. Students pass books around and beg for the opportunity to hold a quality text in their hands.

Our students are a diverse mix of learners from a variety of backgrounds.

We have neighborhood kids and kids from all over town. High achievement is the norm at our school, and the expectation for all students. Many of our kids have difficult situations at home, and school is their safe haven.

My Project

We utilize good literature during our literacy block, to model the concepts that we study. Vocabulary development, text structure, cause and effect, and character traits are all brought to life through fine, age appropriate, high interest literature. My students need quality literature in the classroom to support higher level thinking and in-depth text studies such as Holes, Hatchet and The One and Only Ivan.

Our students will continue to develop their love of language and reading, and expand their skills as readers and writers by engaging with these texts.

Simply listening to a fine story isn't quite the same as reading it for oneself.
