Our school serves a population of about 475 students. We are a Title I school with about 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our kids are eager to learn and are anxious to see what is out there in the world for them to discover. Our families are hard-working people who want their children to succeed and be the best they can be! Our students are eager to succeed and always want to be given the opportunity to learn more.
Listening is a life skill, and one that we don't often work on. Learning to listen and practicing listening using podcasts brings student engagement to a new high! Then giving the students the opportunity to create, write, and perform their own podcast will strengthen many skills.
The podcast equipment will give children the different opportunities to practice writing, analyzing, and being great scientists!
Communication is vital and listening is an important part of that. The STEM books will give the children experiences that they can incorporate into their podcasts. Giving students many opportunities to dive into science and actually DO science and "get their hands dirty" gives them many experiences to share in their podcasts. They can share the results of an experiment, the "AH-HA" moment they had when discovering something for the first time, or even share their failures and what they learned.
