Help me give my students an iPad, sensory slime, a play families set, crayons, laminating pouches, and more that will teach and motivate them to communicate.
I am a speech-language pathologist working at a Pre-K center. My students are primarily in special education classrooms. All of my students show great curiosity and motivation to learn! My students are in preschool, so they primarily learn through play. My students love to play with various toys/items such as cars, dolls, sand, animals, balloons, etc.
My Project
The majority of my students come from low-income households. Many of my students do not have access to many toys or books. They are primarily exposed to these materials in school. Due to COVID-19, we must take extra precautions to ensure our students' safety. Normally, my students share various materials during speech-language therapy sessions. Now, materials are going to need to be sanitized more often, and students are going to need their own materials to ensure that germs are not spread through materials.
Teachers (including speech-language pathologists) lost their funding to buy materials this year due to budget cuts from the COVID-19 pandemic.
I want to be able to provide each of my students with their own materials (e.g. toys, craft materials) to ensure their safety while teaching them to be effective communicators. I plan to create a bag of materials for each of my students based on their interests and communication needs. I will also use materials for students that are engaging in remote learning. I want to be able to gather enough materials so that my students do not have to share materials, for sanitary purposes. This will help to ensure my students' safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I am also requesting an iPad to benefit my students' learning during speech-language therapy sessions. I will use the iPad to pull up various lessons (e.g. picture cards on the Boom Learning website), virtual books, music/movement activities. I have learned to use more online resources during the 2019-2020 school year when we engaged in remote learning. I know an iPad will be a great tool to help my students continue to engage with these resources, and it is something that is quick and easy to sanitize in between therapy sessions, so all of my students can benefit from it.
