This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher working in a school with high poverty and diverse backgrounds, I am accustomed to seeing my students struggle daily. Whether it is not having school supplies or the tools they need at home to be successful, these obstacles may prevent them from reaching their full potential.

My students are strong willed, focused, motivated, and love math and science!

My students are very active and full of energy. They show me this every day​ from the moment I greet them at the door in my classroom. I want them to be able to reach their full potential. Sometimes I feel I can only do so much in my classroom while they are under my care. Once they go home, I cannot control how they live their lives, but I am hoping I can make a positive impact on them during our time together by giving them the tools they need to make positive choices.

My Project

My students absolutely love math. They love to problem solve and to work with numbers. By bringing coding into my classroom, they will be able to use their creative and outside of the box thinking skills to write code. Coding is the future. All of our future leaders have some type of background that focuses on math and science. Learning how to write code is their first step. My students were given the opportunity to work with coding last year using the Sphero robots and they absolutely loved it. Please help me show them how fun math and problem solving can be by writing code. I will use the robots along with tools such as code.org and to help them explore the amazing world of coding.
