My students already come from homes where their socioeconomic status impacts things such as meal choices and exercise. Letting my students have the opportunity to wear a pedometer will hopefully increase their motivation to stay active and healthy, and to make smart choices. This tool will also create an understanding of math by helping them develop the skills they need to analyze data and keep records of their steps. My students are very competitive. They can use the trackers to compete with other classmates allowing them to take ownership of their health by creating personal fitness goals. Working as an individual or with a team, they can encourage one another to meet their goals. I know these pedometers will encourage them to make smarter choices and stay active. They are so active and full of energy. This could be the tool to help motivate them to take it to the next level.
