Mrs. DeMattei from Mobile AL is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an iRobot Roomba and an Interactive Robotic Building Block System.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. They have hearing loss, vision loss and/or physical disabilities and range from ages 3-5. They are a determined group who will make great progress this year with the help of donors like you.
These students learn best from a variety of teaching methods such as hands-on learning, direct instruction, and modeling.
It is crucial that we give the children multiple ways to learn and the best opportunity to meet their sensory needs.
Working with Pre-K students does NOT mean we can’t begin to introduce them to coding early. Coding has become such a fascination with children and these materials will encourage their imagination!
Providing my Pre-K students with a robot that is already programmed will give them incentive to help build the Buzzbot Robot.
My students face a variety of challenges and often take many lessons to grasp the lesson at hand. The Robot System will give my Pre-K students the hands-on-building materials to create and watch their final project come to life. The robot will teach them the importance of following step-by-step sequencing, practicing their fine motor skills, and being introduced to beginner level coding terminology.
The Roomba will allow my students to see an actually robot in action! They will be introduced to new language that they may not come in contact with for years. Being able to see the dirt the Roomba collects will teach my Pre-K students that robots not only can be fun, BUT serve multiple useful purposes.
These materials will introduce my students into the wonderful world of coding much earlier than many of their peers who may begin their coding education years later!
This project will be a fun and exciting project for many Pre-K students to work on and watch progress for multiple years to come!
