Learning to Care for a Pet

My Students

Our school is a Title I school located in Houston, TX. We are a Preschool through 5th grade school. More than 50% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students enjoy coming to school every day. It is a safe place for them to learn, socialize, and be creative. Preschool is a place of discovery and learning. We want our students to get the most out of their education. This way they are prepared and ready to move on to Kindergarten!

My Project

Ten years ago, I welcomed Smokey into my classroom. Smokey was a kind rabbit who inspired my students to come to school every day and learn. While Smokey is no longer with us, we are ready for a new bunny. Arlo is a sweet young bunny, ready to join our class. My students are eagerly waiting for his arrival. They are already expanding their minds by asking many questions about Arlo. Such as why are his ears floppy and why do bunnies hop. From that, I can expand with math questions such as how many times did Arlo hop or English questions such as let's write a letter to Arlo.

In order to bring Arlo into the classroom, we need a few items.

A secure cage for Alro to call home is one of those items. The cage I have found will not only keep the bunny safe, it will also provide enough room for him to live comfortably and for all the students to see him. The cage also provides basics such as a water bottle and food bowl. Also, bunnies need to constantly chew because their teeth never stop growing. The chew toys I have picked for him will allow him to chew and keep his teeth down. Also, when the students have recess or lunch, these toys will stop him from being bored.
