My Students
I teach at a Head Start program in South Chicago. A majority of our students come from low-income families. Many of my students are also dual language learners. Most of my students join my classroom at just three years of age and stay with us until they transition to kindergarten.
Having the opportunity to watch my students grow, develop new skills, and learn over a two year period is extremely rewarding.
I get to see them come in as shy three's and walk out as confident five's. Although many of my students come from low-income families, their curiosity, their energy, and their eagerness to come to school to socialize and learn are inspiring!
My Project
With this project, you will support our classrooms in having various fine motor materials that will keep them interested throughout the school year. Many of our students have long days at school, and keeping them interested in learning is sometimes a challenge. Having so many math, literacy, and cognitive materials will make it possible for the teachers to continuously rotate our materials to keep the children engaged in learning in all areas of the classroom.
The See-Inside Magnetic Blocks will bring lots of learning to our light table where the children can use the blocks to explore with color and color changes.
The various manipulative materials such as the Young Architects Design Blocks will encourage them to bring their sketches to life as they create in block area. The mighty Monkey Pegs will support learners who are still strengthening their fine motor skills to feel successful. The Rainbow Pyramid Stackers will encourage children to problem solve as they attempt to stack the pieces in various patterns and designs, all while trying to keep them balanced.
The Design Builders will encourage creativity along with encouraging social skills when children work together to create. The children will love practicing letter recognition and sound recognition using the Learning Locks and Letter Rockets in our literacy areas. These are just a few examples of how I feel our classrooms will benefit from these amazing materials!
