This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine what life would be like without technology? Many of my students have never been taught, nor exposed to the vast educational opportunities that our technology affords us.

My students are excited, fascinated learners who amaze me every day.

They are beating the odds, coming from adverse backgrounds and broken homes, poverty-stricken, yet motivated and curious each day. My students come from families where both parents work hard to make ends meet, or can't find jobs. Most of my students don't have access at home to computers, let alone the Internet. They have few opportunities to interact with technology. They are the first in their household to speak English, and it is amazing how they absorb information. They are leaders in their home and their communities in the ways that they use opportunities from school to educate their surrounding environment.

My Project

We are currently underway in a penguin unit. The students are fascinated by these funny birds that cannot fly! When I learned that penguins from the South Pole were currently at the Academy of Sciences, I was fascinated that live video could be streamed to show these creatures existing in real-time. The LCD Projector would allow my students' curriculum to come to life. It would afford them meaningful opportunities to bring the outside world into the classroom, and to contextualize all that they learn. My students have extremely adverse backgrounds, yet they are capable of so much. Despite our high-needs of many families, our class raised funds last year for Haiti. Having an LCD projector would allow students to understand global issues and learn even more about current events. It would help them understand their role as global citizens.

I would love to open their world even more through technology.

I would love to stream meaningful videos of authors, our president, live penguins at the academy of sciences. These are opportunities for life to be brought into the classroom--to take virtual field trips in our own classroom, and to make learning come alive!
