This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Jackie Robinson said "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives". I am hoping that you can help make that impact on the lives of my students!

My students are all English language learners who began their 2nd grade school year on a kindergarten grade level in most subject areas.

Our class is comprised of 90% Latin descent and 10% Chinese descent students. All of the students are only exposed to English when they are in school. They attend a title I school in New York. They are hard working children who want to succeed. They come to school eager to learn as much as possible.

My Project

I am asking you to help our class get a document camera so that we could have many more shared reading experiences throughout the day. My students are very low level readers (90% emergent) and a document camera will allow them to experience their favorite books together. This will expose the students to seeing not just hearing the words of the story. Studies have shown that the more that students are exposed to shared reading and read aloud the better they become as readers. The document camera will also allow for me to project math pages that students are working on, so that we can work on problems together either as a whole class or a small group. It is a valuable tool that will allow my students to succeed in all subject areas by letting them have more visual aids to help further their learning.

A document camera will have a great impact on the learning of my students.

English language learners need to have as much visual aids as possible to help assist in their learning of the language. This tool will benefit them in every way and in every subject and would be greatly appreciated by myself and my students.
