My students need the iPads and covers to help them in both language arts and math. The iPads will be used as part of independent and small group time throughout the day.

My Students

"Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times." by Michael Carr. It is very important to remember that every student has strengths and it is important to find a way to tap into that strengths. Many of my students learn best through technology and learning games.

I have classroom full of energetic 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders.

They are kind, well mannered and a hard working group of kids. All of my students have disabilities that vary from mild to moderate and make them eligible for Special Day Class. Fairbanks Elementary is a school with a lot of heart. The school is located in a socially diverse, low income, high crime rate neighborhood in which many students are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch. The staff goes above and beyond often contributing personal resources for the betterment of our kids education. Many students take advantage of our after school activities which include MESA and tutoring. Our students continue to need access to more recent technology to keep up with the strides other schools have been achieving. Our students need the right tools to be successful and one of those tools is the ability to understand and use technology.

My Project

Technology is becoming ever more present in society. I have realized that many of my students enjoy learning through the use of technology. However, our classroom computers are very old, slow and often stop working while the students are working on them. The iPads would be very useful in the classroom because they are the latest technology and the direction in which technology is moving. My kids will be using the iPads as part of our small group independent instruction time that occurs during both Language Arts and Math. My students will be using the iPads to play learning games and teach concepts that my curriculum does not cover. The focus of the curriculum in my Special Education classroom is to teach students the fundamentals of reading and math and often leaves out more complex concepts. The iPads would help my kids learn those concepts in a fun and interactive way.

The donations for iPads would improve our classroom by giving my students the access to more recent technology.

Being able to use and understand technology is an important skill for my students and will help them be successful when they grow up. The iPads will be used for learning games and will help my students get a more well rounded education than the curriculum can offer. The more my students know, understand and learn the better equip they are to be successful in adult.
