Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

"Can we do something fun to learn this?" "Can we use technology in class?" These are some of the questions I consider when planning lessons, and having an iPad in the classroom would help me answer both with a "Yes!"

My students are seventh graders at a predominantly African American middle school in north St.

Louis, Missouri. Most of my students are just barely at or below their grade level in reading, even though they are striving for so much more. They have been growing by leaps and bounds this school year, and that's due to their thirst for learning! They are excited to learn and determined to succeed, and I want to encourage that excitement in them daily.

My Project

We are asking for an iPad (and case) to use in our daily lessons and small group activities. We could use it for educational apps and videos, of which there are many free ones to choose from. We could use the iPad to take pictures and videos to document and share our learning with others, as well as create videos to teach concepts and skills. In guided reading groups, we would use the iPad to read articles and selections from books, play educational games, and use the Internet to look up information. There is a multitude of ways we can use the iPad in our classroom, and we are so excited to get this opportunity!

Having an iPad in our classroom will introduce a new way to engage students, a quicker way to look up information when we need it, and a more fun way to learn certain skills and concepts.

Donations to our project will help provide us with an opportunity to improve our learning with technology and share our learning with our classmates, parents, and administrators. Thank you so much to all of our amazing donors!
