My students live in a poverty-stricken region that is highly affected by drug use and unemployment. These adverse conditions have landed over half of my students in foster homes or in relative placement. This creates stressful home lives as families struggle to cope.
Despite these situations, my students come to school every day, ready to learn.
They come in every morning asking about what we are going to do for the day, and are excited to be at a school where they are safe and loved.
The current pandemic has put much stress on teachers and students, but we continue to persevere.
My Project
These materials would give my students a wide range of learning experiences that would not only build upon different developmental domain but would also encourage hand/eye coordination. This is an important skill needed that will help lay the foundation for writing.
Materials that encourage fine motor development are proven to help skills develop that are needed in writing and reading.
The sensory bin materials requested would provide my students with a host of different opportunities to learn through play. This activity would encourage fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, eye hand coordination and so on. Preschoolers learn best through this method as it allows them make their own experiences.
