Help me give my students sensory activities they can use everyday! A sensory table and tactile materials would make such a huge difference in our classroom!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is part of a large urban district. Our classroom is a specialized program for preschoolers with autism, and the students come from all over the district to attend. Every year, we have the most amazing families and the most incredible kids! This is often our students first opportunity to attend school. They grow and change in so many ways! They begin their life long learning journey in our classroom, and every day is a chance to bloom! We have so much fun together... we fill our days with all the typical preschool activities - singing and reading and creating and building and exploring - while at the same time making sure each child's unique learning needs are met so that they can participate fully in the classroom, as well as strengthen the skills they need to participate fully in the world.
My Project
Our preschoolers love to explore! Sensory activities allow children to learn through their senses... touch, taste, sight, smell, and hearing. Sensory play can be fun and engaging and oh, so exciting; but, it can also be calming and thoughtful. It always leads to discovery and learning!
Sensory activities are so important for preschoolers - especially preschoolers with autism!
We want to fill our classroom with opportunities to learn, and a sensory table and sensory materials would make such a difference! Our students would use these hands on materials to learn about cause and effect, problem solving and investigation. They'd also be learning to share, play together, and better communicate with others. Sensory materials help children calm their bodies and minds - helping them to organize and process their thoughts and feelings. Having sensory activities in our classroom will help our children in so many ways - we can't wait to explore together and grow!
