Science was unfamiliar to me as a child. Look at me now, I'm teaching it! I will be the type of Science teacher that I needed. I will give to my kids what I didn't get. Please help me! Science if done correctly can be a wonderful experience for young people.
My Students are Urban Black and Hispanic youth.
They are from very low economic neighborhoods and they need to be successful in classes like Science and Math where success is not expected. My current students seem to love Science and I want to encourage and help that love grow. The supplies we are requesting for our project will be reusable supplies that allow us to fully explore all scientific concepts. The students are not use to getting the supplies they need because funding is always a problem. We do the best work we can now with what we have but it is never as good as it can be. Helping these young people will not only give them confidence in becoming learners but also they will respect these new supplies. My students need the small wins that will help them respect school and all that it can offer. If we can get a hold of them while they are young, the chances of losing them to the streets diminishes. "
The resources we are requesting will be used to enrich their lives through questioning and observations. These funds may help build the next Nobel Prize-winning scientist. The microscope will allow them to fully look into cells. We are requesting tools that not only support the academic side of science but it will also make science fun. Tactile learners will be able to complete hands-on projects, which is the easiest way to learn. Science is discovery and how we discover is by doing. We will build, investigate, question, and observe in our science class with the resources we are requesting. We are requesting an explosive volcano that as a class we will build in our earth science unit. Building this volcano will help my students understand rocks, magma and minerals. We also requested a water cycle project because talking about the water cycle can be fun but to build and watch the water cycle happen will help imprint this on their young minds. These supplies will help learning.
My project is so important not only academically but in life.
These kids don't know winning and to win something that is so important will be such a great achievement. It also gives me hope that the struggles I experienced as a child won't be as hard on these young people because they know there are people out there who care. Being able to have as much interaction within science is definitely the most useful tool a science teacher can give a student. Peeking there interest to change the world
