Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of the students in my classroom are 10th graders. With that being said, for many this is really their first year at a high school. Many of my students are part of the Boyle Heights Community and in addition come from low-income families. My students are bright with very unique and interesting personalities. Together, we have created a positive classroom culture. As the year goes on, it is my goal is to continue providing a safe environment to promote student engagement.
My Project
These basic classroom supplies will help make learning more engaging in my classroom. Typically in my class after every unit, I create review games to test students' knowledge. Thus far, students have shown their learned knowledge through Jeopardy, Kahoot, BINGO and Escape Room games. In creating and using games as a way to review, I find that students are motivated to learn, more engaged and willing to participate.These review games also aide retention. Students have shown to better recall information learned. Since students know a review game will follow and enjoy the friendly competition, students are motivated to take notes during lectures.
