Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My English and Spanish speaking students are offered enjoyable, stimulating and learning opportunities in our Dual Immersion program. Our program follows the "90/10" model, students enter the program in kindergarten and receive the majority of instruction in Spanish. As students progress in their education, the amount of instruction given in English increases while it decreases in Spanish up to their fifth grade year where they will receive a 50/50 percentage of each language.
The goal of our Dual Immersion program is for students to receive bilingual skills that will provide them with cognitive and social-emotional skills.
Students will be able to maintain strong ties to their families, culture and community in our diverse society. Our students are creative, energetic and eager to learn.
My Project
With these games and books my students will be able to enjoy learning while using games and reading a variety of books. Through play they will develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.
These games will help provide language practice in the various skills- speaking, writing, listening and reading.
Some of the games can be played in pairs or in small groups, thereby providing an opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills such as the skill of disagreeing politely or the skill of asking for help. In the classroom students will definitely participate in the activities
