This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a blended class of pre-k students. Half of my students are in the VPK (Voluntary Pre-K) program. The other half are in my special education program. My students love school and learning through play.
All of my students are from low-income families, with many lacking toys that promote pre-readiness skills.
Most of our students are 2 years behind when they start school. I have asked for learning toys that teach my students their letters and sounds (many are non-verbal and come from houses where they don't speak English). These toys will help promote learning at home. It will also reinforce the skills learned at school with visuals.
