Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach an amazing group of students who are all unique and have a wide variety of interests. Most of my students are on the autism spectrum or have varying cognitive and social emotional needs. The one thing they have in common, is that they are all highly motivated to learn through exploration and sensory play.
I am requesting many items, including: Hex bugs, toy animals, stickers, fidget spinners, and toy trains.
All of my students are motivated by some/all of the items I am requesting. These toys serve as reinforcers for my students and they are all motivated to complete academic tasks to earn time with these resources. All of the items can be used to increase speech & language and social emotional skills. For example, students play with their peers using the resources, which in turn increases language skills such as requesting and labeling items for both peers and adults.
There are many other items I am requesting that will also increase my students' skills. The stickers will be used to improve fine-motor skills while the batteries are needed to keep many of my classroom resources in working order. Thank you for all you do for my students!
