Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a neighborhood school that truly is the heart of the neighborhood it serves. My full day Head Start preschool classroom is dedicated to not only teaching students academics (letters, numbers, colors, shapes) but also incorporating social and life skills (tooth brushing, hand washing, eating family style). Our Title I school really is the backbone of the neighborhood. School events, parent nights, and after school programs are much needed and highly sought out for the students that we serve.
My students are highly diverse.
While they all now live in the same neighborhood, their backgrounds, home language, and cultures vary greatly. We set high expectations for these students and strive to give them quality experiences that they may not otherwise receive. Hands-on experiences are crucial for early learners to truly understand and appreciate ideas and studies within the classroom.
My Project
My students are very active explorers and learners! I would like to create a Game Lending Library within my classroom so that students and families can check out games throughout the week and weekend and play games at home to reinforce letter recognition, letter soundsknowledge, math skills, and cooperation skills.
Children love spending time and having fun with their parents and board games are a positive and fun way to accomplish this and create a home-school connection.
I would love to be able to give my students the ability to hone their literacy and math knowledge through fun and interactive ways at home.
