My Students

Our school is located in a very diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn. My students are 5 years old. They are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch. Many of my kindergarteners are growing up in low-income homes and do not have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic growth. Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated and love coming to school.

To develop essential language skills, my students need many opportunities to interact with their peers through active learning experiences and play.

My Project

For young children, play is the most important part of their lives. Through play, they learn about themselves and the world around them. Through play, youngsters develop language, problem solving, social and motor skills. All those skills provide an important foundation for academic learning. As a kindergarten teacher, I value and celebrate childhood by including playtime in a school day.

I want to provide my students with a variety of building materials, such as Lego, Magna Tiles and wooden blocks.

Block building is an essential activity for kindergartners. It develops imagination, creativity, mathematical thinking, and social and emotional growth. While building and playing with their peers, children expand their expressive language and learn to cooperate. Your donation will give my students many valuable opportunities to learn through cooperation, exploration and play. We thank you in advance!
