We are a small, public, charter school located in the rural town in the Sacramento Delta region. Our school family has students in grades TK-6. Our students come from many communities up and down the Sacramento River, which means we serve students from a variety of backgrounds and needs. We provide services to a significant ELL population and a growing Special Education population. We remind our students daily that they are leaders and scholars who will change the world!
My Project
Addition Learning Locks, Ten-Frame Dominoes, Part-Whole Addition and Subtraction Cards, Double Dice, Doubles Bingo and Near Doubles Bingo are learning tools that can be used during math centers. They are hands on materials that can make practicing math concepts...FUN! I have 4 different math center groups. I call them CATS (Create-Apply-Technology-Small Group). My students rotate through the four centers where they create using their math knowledge, apply their math knowledge, practice their math knowledge with our technology and learn more math knowledge in our small group. My first graders love to learn through hands on ways. I believe centers should be so much work than a worksheet. I want to hear my kids laughing, socializing with one another, using academic language, and enjoying their center time.
My kids deserve engaging activities to help them learn important math concepts!
These materials will be things my students can use over and over again for years to come. These fun learning tools cover concepts such as: doubles facts, problem solving skills, missing addends, near doubles, addition, subtraction, and number recognition. These can also be used in a variety of ways to ensure they will always be high interest activities.
Having a variety of options for center activities will help my variety of learners! Smiles will be seen and learning will be heard.
