Help me give my students the opportunity to explore the world together through play. I want to give them the opportunity to investigate how things work and find solutions to problems by working together.
My students are AMAZING! They come to school eager to learn every day and are always asking deep questions and wanting to know more about EVERYTHING. A high percentage of the students within my room struggle with reading and math skills. However, these struggles do not hold them back.
They have a deep desire to learn and are excited to grow their knowledge in EVERYTHING.
The student demographic in my classroom is one that varies greatly. My students reside in very rural areas where many families do not have good or any cell phone nor internet services. Our school has a high percentage that live in poverty, single parent homes, or students being raised by other family members. A majority of my students appear to not have academic support within the home. However, despite the many obstacles they face they do not let that hinder them.
The impact of Covid-19 has directly impacted their learning in that it physically distanced them from each other. Children learn so much through play and the social aspect of playing and working with other children. Covid-19 took that from them for so long. This is something that I want to give them back.
My Project
Having access to these resources will directly impact my students learning by allowing them to learn in an engaging and interactive way. Children who learn through play base, student lead learning take more ownership in their work.
These stem kits and activities will allow me to provide academic opportunities for students to 'play' together while working through various challenges.
I will be able to incorporate many of the skills I already teach such as, sink or float, in a more interactive, play based, hands on way for all the children.
