My Project

As a new Speech-Language Pathologist working in a District 75, high-needs special education kindergarten through third-grade school in Brooklyn, I believe that every child deserves a joyful, playful, and meaningful learning experience. My students are beautiful, bright, and resilient learners, and many are navigating both developmental challenges and systemic inequities.

These little ones receive speech therapy to help them communicate their needs, build relationships, and engage with the world.

We lack the basic tools—toys—that make speech therapy come alive for young children. Play isn’t just fun—it’s how children learn best. Through pretend play, turn-taking games, building blocks, and interactive toys, my students can develop the speech, language, and social skills they need for life.

I want to fill our speech room with toys that reflect my students’ interests and identities and that inspire joy, creativity, and communication. I want our sessions to be filled with laughter, curiosity, and connection.

As a therapist who looks like many of my students, I know how powerful it is for them to feel seen and heard. Help me create a space where their voices can grow stronger, louder, and more confident—through the universal language of play!
