This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the career ever! My students are ages 3-5 and it's their first time in a school setting. Our school is Title 1, which means that they live in a low-income area. Title I schools are the students who need the most support, attention, and resources in order for them to succeed. These students will soar, given the resources, support, and care they desperately need. Our district focuses on inclusion and early intervention. My classroom consists of students with varying degrees of development. They all share a common love of learning. My goal is to help them close any gaps in their development so they can have the opportunity to work with their peers in a General Ed setting when they enter Kindergarten. It is incredible to see the growth that comes from these little ones.
My Project
Hands-on learning through play is the best way for young children to learn. When Covid started our dramatic play area was restricted from anything with fabric. This took all the dress-up clothing and soft dolls that were available.
These items will help our students play in a fun and appealing way to teach about diversity and working together.
Dramatic play helps children develop an understanding that there is more than one way of doing, being, thinking, and playing. This year, I have larger, more diverse classes. Children from places around the world with differing abilities. Having more materials that the students can identify within the classroom will help them all feel included and part of our community.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
