My students need child sized, real life props for our dramatic play center such as dolls, play food, kitchen items, a shopping cart, and a small table and chair set.
My classroom consists of 22 students who come in ready to learn and explore every day. It is important for me to provide age appropriate centers where they can learn and play. Having a dramatic play area helps them use their imagination as well as learn how to share and interact with one another.
My classroom is filled with 22 curious Kindergarten students who are eager to learn.
Our school is located in a rural area with mostly middle to low income students. We are a K-3 school with approximately 800 students. My students are busy, active learners who need lots of rich and rewarding hands-on opportunities. Active learning happens through active minds and play! I want to provide my students with a variety of toys and dramatic play items that can help them explore their world in a safe environment. By allowing children to role play, we are teaching them social skills and life skills.
My Project
My students need child sized, real life props for our dramatic play center such as dolls, play food, kitchen items, a shopping cart, and a small table and chair set. This is one of the most popular centers in my classroom. This center helps children to think across many academic areas while using real-life situations. Through the housekeeping/dramatic play center, I can incorporate language and social skills. It also helps students become aware of numbers and words, reading and writing, and other forms of communication. During my teaching career, I have seen this center transform into a grocery store, restaurant, doctor’s office, and more. There are so many skills I can incorporate into each of these options. For example, when playing grocery store, my students can develop a shopping list using word cards or phonetic spelling. Young children learn by doing what they love. They learn through play and experimentation, and by exercising their imagination.
Jean Piaget said, "Play is the Work of the Child." That quote will come to life in my classroom when this project is fully funded.
By donating to our project, you will provide an area where students use their imagination to develop oral and social skills that will enhance their cognitive development in a classroom setting. My students will feel safe, secure and happy while they are at school; all of which will contribute to their ability to learn and develop critical thinking skills.
