My Students

My Kindergarten classroom of 24+ students has some of the most amazing students you will ever meet. As a teacher in a low-income urban district, I am able to teach English language learners and students who are new to this country, students who require special education, as well as students who have many other challenges in their life other than academics. These students are capable of so much and make me proud to be their teacher. Seeing their love of learning and their ability to think critically and question is truly inspiring. I've seen students who hate reading and find it dull and difficult, immerse themselves in books by the end of the school year or plan out and build something out of recycled materials that is functional and creative.

My Project

My Kindergarten students are so great at making something out of nothing. In our STEM classroom, my students use recycled materials to create habitats, to make art projects, and to build structures they create themselves. They absolutely love using their hands to help their learning. Kindergarten students do so well with hands on activities and games. Your donation will help them use tactile experiences through letter play with magnetic letters and play different games using math skills and literacy skills. Play is something that often gets a bad reputation in the classroom. Curriculum has to be rigorous and promote higher order thinking. With the right kinds of games, students learn so much more and have more meaningful learning experiences. These games along with the magnetic letters promote higher order thinking skills while giving students the opportunity to have those meaningful hands on learning experiences.
