My Students
My classroom is a diverse, inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive complimentary breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.
My students are very interested in learning about letters, math, social studies, engineering, and science, and they enjoy exploring technology.
They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite their challenges, they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.
My Project
We have recently had a few students join our classroom who have developmental delays, and we have very few toys and manipulatives appropriate for their age level. We need toddler-level items to use to help them learn and play. The items selected will allow them to learn colors, shapes, and cause and effect as well as provide them with sensory experiences.
Having toys and manipulatives that are developmentally appropriate is crucial to a child's development.
If children are not engaged with what they are using, they will not learn.
Storage bins will keep the items safe, and the gift certificate and sheet protectors will allow me to purchase files and create task boxes and games to help them learn.
