Learning Through Outdoor Play!

Help me give my students some fitness cones, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, t-ball set and balls, some bases and a bowling balls set. Finally, an outdoor patio storage box for the equipment.

My Students

My class consists of special needs and typically developing children in an inclusive classroom setting. My students range from three to five years old and participate in North Carolina's PreKindergarten program that seeks to prepare them for when they enter kindergarten.

Our students work on both academic skills, including pre-reading skills, to physical skills such as hopping on one foot.

All of these varied skills help my students thrive when they move on to kindergarten. These items will allow students to learn about being healthy.

My Project

Our students have limited resources on our preschool playground. We need more varied activities to help them develop their thinking skills and improve their physical fitness. The playground has a small slide area, three animal teeter totters, a few balls, and some hoops for 16 preschool students and a HeadStart class that shares the playground. We also do not have physical education in preschool so these experiences on the playground are their only outdoor time at school when they can develop their physical fitness and coordination skills.

Having the requested balls, bowling balls, catching items, and bowling items would enable our students to play collaboratively with their peers, use their creativity in play every day, and develop their fine and gross motor skills.

We would also like to get some new storage units that will hold all of these fun and new physical activities. This project, if fully funded, will dramatically improve the learning, safety, and physical fitness of my students!
