The beanbag, weighted sloth, and breathing buddy koalas instantly became favorites, and we took time as a class to talk about how and when to use the space. Many of our students face big emotions and adult-sized challenges, and having this cozy, welcoming area has given them a way to pause, breathe, and feel safe before returning to learning.\r\n\r\nSince introducing the calming corner, I've seen students begin to self-regulate more independently, choosing to take a moment with the weighted sloth or practice deep breathing with the koalas when they feel overwhelmed. It's heartwarming to watch them take ownership of their emotions and return to class ready to engage and connect. One student shared, \"It helps me calm my brain before I go back to math,\" which perfectly sums up its purpose.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on these emotional regulation skills and incorporating mindfulness into our daily routines. These resources have made a meaningful difference not only in our classroom environment but also in how students support one another. Thank you for helping create a safe and caring space where our students can thrive both emotionally and academically.","fullyFundedDate":1754044042365,"projectUrl":"project/art-elementary-calming-corner/9458168/","projectTitle":"Art Elementary Calming Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fetterly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10076623_orig.png?crop=400,400,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752245569719","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10076623"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3376","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":396,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":61.9,"schoolId":3376,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Stoneville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Stoneville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/rockingham-county-school-district/stoneville-elementary-school/3376"}
