Learning Through Music!

My students need a music center to support their sensory needs. I chose materials such as an interactive laptop, musical instruments, a CD player & headphones that will help support the growth of social, mathematical, and language skills.

My Students

Most of my students are Latino and are from Spanish speaking households. They live in a low economic regain of New Jersey and are labeled PSD (preschool disabled). These students all have special needs that delay them from entering into a general education classroom. They are between the ages of 3-5, but developmentally, they are between 18 months to 3 years of age. They all have IEP (Individual learning plans) set with specific goals to help them to reach their full potential.

However, these goals are being disrupted.

Due to their everyday challenges these students have communication delays and 75% of them are unable to speak thus leading to anxiety that triggers behavioral challenges.

My Project

I have chosen materials such as an interactive laptop for students to explore a verity of interactive musical experiences and a variety of musical instruments to support math skills when students tap and count beats. Students will also experience social interactions through turn taking. The organizer visually supports students to put materials back in their proper place and care for the equipment. The CD player, headphones, and music will allow students who have audio sensitivity disorders experience music at their own level.

Your donations will help support special needs students with a music center that will encourage them to explore and strengthen social, mathematical and language skills.

Music is the universal tool which we all learn from. Most of my students are non-verbal. However, they all have an interest in music. With your support, my students will sing songs, clap to rhythms and dance to beats. I believe that my students will learn math, language, and social skills by interacting with this center.
