My Project

My middle school special education satellite classroom will be filled with incredible students who have intellectual disabilities and face unique challenges every day. Many of them experience sensory sensitivities, especially to loud noises and crowded spaces, which can make focusing in a traditional classroom setting difficult. To support their emotional and physical needs, we will begin each day with a calming morning meeting designed to help them feel grounded, safe, and ready to learn. Incorporating movement into this routine is essential, and having individual yoga mats will provide a clean, consistent, and personal space for each student to move, stretch, and release energy.

These yoga mats will transform our morning meetings into a more focused and therapeutic start to the day.

By giving students a designated space to move freely, we will help them regulate their energy, reduce anxiety, and improve their ability to participate in academic activities. Many of my students benefit from routines that involve movement and calming strategies, and yoga has proven to be an effective tool in building these essential skills. Your support will not only help meet a physical need but also create a classroom environment where students can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Students will also be given their own personal water bottles to carry with them each day.
