My students need hands on activities such as Sight Word Puzzles, Magic Boards, and Alphabet Rockets to use during literacy stations that support our curriculum, are kindergarten age appropriate, and are hands-on and interactive.
My classroom has 25 creative and energetic students. They are eager to discover the world and challenge their minds in learning. Students that attend our school come from diverse backgrounds. Many students are from low-income households and participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.
My students need a variety of hands-on activities and manipulatives that allow for exploration and reinforcement of phonics, spelling, and writing goals.
It is important for these young learners to have opportunities to engage in hands-on activities to allow for exploration, discovery, and processing of new knowledge. Meaningful learning strengthens skills, increases student confidence, and assists in creating a love for learning.
My Project
I use small group literacy stations to reinforce what has been taught in whole group lessons. The literacy stations are independent activities which are completed in small groups of 3 to 4. students.
My small group literacy stations support the development of social skills and teamwork while also reinforcing previously taught lessons.
These literacy stations are fun ways for students to work and learn together while using hands on activities.
I plan on using the dough stampers, magic board, magnetic letter builder, alphabet dough mats, alphabet rockets, tactile letters, trace and write alphabet center, and alphabet stamps to reinforce our letter of the week. I will use the sorting houses, build a word houses, and word puzzles to reinforce the phonic and phonemic awareness skills of the week. The sight word puzzles will be used to reinforce our weekly sight words.
