These materials would allow me the opportunity to create a functional, engaging learning environment that promotes independent reading. In our society today, there are children worldwide who struggle with sitting still and attending to a physical, hard copy book in their hands due to the advances in technology in the world around them. I want to take it back "old school", and provide my students with the environment and opportunity to help them fall in love with reading like I did when I was their age!
I would like to provide my students with a new, inviting classroom library area full of titles and covers that will interest them so they have the opportunity to discover a love for reading, instead of viewing it as a chore.
Kindergarten is the base of their educational career and I want to ensure I start them off with a strong reading foundation! In order to make that happen, our classroom library needs to be revamped! So many of our books are older titles, have ripped pages or covers, and have not faired well over time. Having this project funded would allow me to completely redo our classroom library with age and developmentally appropriate books to engage my students in reading.
