Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1, moderate poverty, high minority school. My students inspire me to go further than I ever dreamed possible. The challenges and obstacles that some of my students face are unimaginable to the common man. The come from graffiti covered buildings, gang engulfed neighborhood, and drug use that is in abundance. As their teacher, I hope to bring a ray of light to some of the cloudy days they encounter or relieve them of some of their responsibilities and allow them to be a child.

Some students have 1 parent households while others have no parents.

Their grandparents are raising them as best they can. While that may be a struggle, their focus should be solely on their academics and feeling safe and valued at school.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The paper, post it notes, and colored pencils, and other supplies of the sort will be used by the students, so that they may create books. The organizational baskets and crates will be placed on the shelves in the back of our classroom and will help the library stay clean and in tact from day to day. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful reading. By implementing the Interactive Notebooks , my students will begin to see themselves as organized and responsible. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long readers and writes. Thanks!
