This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are second graders living in the projects of New York City. A day in the life of my ICT students involves them teaching each other and working together. I, as their teacher, want to do my very best to make their year in second grade their most successful yet.
They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and mostly Spanish speaking or bilingual homes.
They come to school eager to learn and explore new things each and every day! Having different tools to use will help them become even more successful!
My Project
My students love to explore topics in different ways. These materials will help my students become better readers as well as better mathematicians!
My students do not have a lot and they are an amazing bunch of second graders who love to learn!
With this project, they will be able to manipulate the curriculum and apply their own skills to achieve high standards. They can use the math games to help them practice their place value skills, addition facts, subtraction facts and get ready for multiplication. This also gives my students who have difficulty learning with workbooks and manipulatives another tool to use when working on math problems and activities.
My students also struggle with basic reading skills and can use help in a variety of areas, from phonics to reading comprehension. These materials will help them become better readers and move up in their reading! They will be able to pull out questions and work together to create a response to stories that they read. With this project, my students will be able to practice reading skills when they think they are actually playing a game. This will make reading fun for some struggling readers!
