Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a hard working and energetic bunch of 2nd graders in the Bronx. We are a Title I school with very diverse learners. Today's students need more attention than ever. My students vary in learning styles, academic levels, behaviors, race, and economic level. All of my students have very unique needs, and learn very differently. I am constantly searching for ways to best help each and every child.

As a teaching I realize creating a cozy, comfortable, inviting, and safe learning space allows students to become better learners.

By providing flexible seating, students will have the opportunity to choose the seating they feel will help them focus on their learning.

My Project

My students will be given the opportunity to choose where they will sit to learn for the day. Giving them this choice empowers them and will encourage their participation and growth. Students will have the option of sitting on stability ball chairs, stools, wobbly disks, bungee chairs, and floor pillows. As their teacher, I try to provide my students with lessons tailored to their specific needs, but by allowing the students to choose where they will sit, they will take ownership of their learning. Opening up the seating options encourages student engagement and will help form a better classroom community.

The students feel happier when they are able to move more and not restricted to chairs.

Classroom behavior improves with active learning. Children who move more have greater creativity. Alternati
