Learning Through Experience

Help me give my students learning materials for academic and exploratory centers. Magna Tiles, dramatic play items, and sensory bin materials provide opportunities for students to learn and interact with each other through multiple modalities and senses.

My Students

I teach at a small school in Northern Utah. Many of the students that I serve are English Language Learners and many come from families where both parents work. We provide free breakfast for our students each day and do our best to take care of their physical and emotional needs as we meet their academic needs.

I teach an all day Kindergarten class for students who qualify for extra academic intervention.

Due to COVID and other family circumstances, many of my students didn't have the opportunity to attend preschool. Despite their challenges, my students are a bright, energetic, and hard working. They come to school eager to learn and it shows in their growth.

My Project

Many of my students did not have the opportunity to attend preschool because of COVID. This project's primary focus is to reinforce learning through centers. The materials I've chosen support students in math, reading, science, and social emotional learning.

Having a variety of centers gives children the opportunity to exercise choice and reinforce learning through meaningful academic and social activities.

Dramatic play centers allow children to exercise their imaginations and learn how to interact with each other. Magna Tiles and kinetic sand support engineering and problem solving practice. A variety of sensory bin fillers (feathers, buttons, beads, pom poms, etc.) combined with tweezers and letter/number tiles create a multisensory experience as students practice academic and fine motor skills. Other activities support whole group instruction with independent practice opportunities.
