Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach students with Autism, ages 8-9. All of my students are at very different levels of learning and addressing each of their varying needs is one of my biggest challenges. I have found that using books with various illustrations and repetitive sentences has been extremely valuable in teaching my students reading, art, science and math. This year I have chosen Eric Carle's books to do just that. They provide various ways of using the same book to teach all the areas of the curriculum beginning with vocabulary, sequencing, timetelling, days of the week, etc. Most of all, their unique style allows me to address all of the very different levels of learning at the same time. It is difficult to find books and materials that will grasp the attention of my students but I strongly believe and have witnessed Eric Carle books do just that. Using these books throughout the course of the year will allow me to cover all of the areas a curriculum should cover in an innovative way. I am hoping to have the complete collection of Eric Carle books in my classroom so that as the students learn they will be able to independently work with the books. I want to be able to adapt each book to fit each student's specific needs. I would like to have the kits that accompany these books along with the teacher's guide. I am extremely devoted to achieving success in my classroom and these materials will definitely help me in achieving this goal. I know that all my students will be able to learn regardless of the many limitations set by their disability if they are simply given the right opportunities. By use of these materials, my student's learning possibilities are endless. Materials are extremely hard to come by, making this donation extremely appreciated.
