This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Next year I would like to include Chess as a weekly elective for our 3rd and 4th grades. Chess helps build many skills a student will need throughout life such as assessing a situation, thinking outside the box, and assessing many possible outcomes before moving a piece. It helps students to slow down and take their time before choosing a piece to move. It builds confidence and sportsmanship.
I want to build my students' confidence and have them start thinking independently and outside the box while problem-solving to complete their classwork.
I think this will be a great way for my students to be involved in something that is a game to build their confidence. They will also have to control their emotions if they are winning or losing. I want my students to play the actual game and not a virtual computer game. I'm very excited about this activity for next year.
