This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all children with Autism. This year I currently only have kindergartners. They are ages 5-6.
Most of my students are non-verbal with limited communication skills!
They need different learning modalities to understand their environment. Art is one way to help my students retain their understanding.
My Project
Using art to learn is a very important part of Kindergarten! It is even more important to use different modalities when students learn differently. Having art materials in the classroom and easily accessible makes teaching with art much easier. During a lesson many times I need to stop and reteach an activity. Using different forms of teaching make it much more enjoyable for my students. My students need paint, paper, paint brushes, non-spill paint cups, collage items, scissors, wiggle eye stickers and people shapes to help them in the classroom.
