This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I need to incite my students' creativity and imaginations! Help us think outside of the box using art!
I work in a Title I school in which all of my students are on a free lunch program.
All of my students are second language learners, be it Spanish or English, due to our unique dual language program. Nearly 100% of my students are English language learners. My school has not met the federal requirements (Annual Yearly Progress, AYP) under No Child Left Behind for two years. As a result, we focus our instruction on test taking strategies and teaching to the test. Unfortunately, this has resulted in cutting back on creativity and activities revolving art.
My Project
What were you favorite activities in school? Some of mine were the arts and crafts activities such as working with recycled items to create art or using pasta to make a frame. Because of the focus on standardized testing my students are not receiving the same well rounded, quality of education so many of us have received. These art supplies will allow me to teach through art. Once a week, as an enrichment and incentive program for good behavior, I would like to provide the students a block of time in which they are encouraged to use their imaginations and think outside the box. Through art I can reinforce the idea that making mistakes is okay and trying new things can result in beauty. Further, I can push students to create art that invokes the senses, as writing does.
Some of my most memorable moments was experimenting with different mediums to create art.
This project will give me the supplies to teach students the craft of invoking the senses. It will foster the idea that difference is okay. I will push my students to the edge by combining writing, reading, and history to the creation of art. Donate to this project to foster creativity!
