Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is composed of 24 very energetic 2nd graders who are always so excited about art. Not one day goes by in the classroom when a student isn't asking for paper to draw on. How can I resist? I can't. Their thoughts and ideas are expressed through the things they create on paper. All my students have a voice in my classroom through the art they create.
It has been an honor to see them blossom these last 2 years into creative individuals.
They demonstrate a sense of creativity through discussions we have regarding works of art. They use enriched vocabulary to express their observations and ideas. I would like my students to have more opportunities to express themselves through art while using a variety of media.
My Project
My students attend an inner city school in LA, where unfortunately, we have limited art supplies. We are only fortunate in having the basic art supplies like crayons, watercolors, and construction paper. We do not have access to color cardstock, fine point markers, and other types of art supplies. It would be wonderful to be able to enrich my students' lives by providing them with other art resources.
Albert Einstein once said, "Creativity is contagious, pass it on." I definitely would want my students' creativity to be contagious, which I could do by offering them other ways to express themselves.
I would like my students to have choices to create art projects that connect to language arts and writing, especially during our Language Arts Units, when students are engaged in discussions and continuously expressing thoughts and ideas through the arts. My goal is to help them become well-rounded individuals who feel confident and successful through art.
Being able to use these new art supplies will offer my students ample opportunities for learning. I would like to thank you ahead of time for your wonderful generosity of supplies that will assist them in creating wonderful works of work.
