Learning Through Art

My Students

My students come from a high-poverty low-income community. They live in the poorest county of New Jersey. Some of my students' parents work 2-3 jobs to take care of the bare necessities of everyday life. While their parents want the very best for them, the extra things in life may not be able to be provided. About 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and cannot readily afford materials to help enhance their education.

My students have faced many challenges in their young lives where school tends to be their only constant.

In our Kindergarten classroom, we like to keep things exciting. There are a lot of important skills that my kindergartners need to master before they are ready for 1st grade. They love working with each other and learning new things!

My Project

My students often thrive from lessons that integrate art with topics like reading, language, social studies, math, and science. I have set up an art center where students will be able to explore daily. By having all new supplies on hand, they will be able to express themselves more effectively. I want my students to make the most of their Kindergarten experiences.

This project is requesting Blick tempera paints, table easels, brush sets, and Crayola watercolor pans.

These materials are tools needed for artistic expression and they will allow the students to exercise their creativity in an unlimited manner. Having new paint and new art supplies will allow my students to express their creative side more efficiently, and they will be able to have more materials on hand when needed.
