The words to express how grateful my students and I are with your lovely donation are difficult to compile. We received our new big beautiful sand and water table just in time for our first class project. My students are now able to learn and explore not just sand and water inside our classroom but countless materials. We now have a newer, bigger, more organized, and safe sensory center.\r\n\r\nAll of my students were surprised. We are able to take more learning materials out of our closet, boxes and integrate them into our sensory center. Students were overjoyed to assist with organizing the learning materials and labeling the materials. Our new big table with its flat front surface is also handy since it gives us more display surface. Our concrete walls in our classroom are a challenging surface since papers constantly fall down depending on the temperature. We will periodically update the table with new projects for many years. \r\nOur first class project was exploring snow. We were able to meet many of our learning objectives: observations skills, predicating, questioning, vocabulary, verbal expression to name a few. We learned about snow and were able to question the information from our videos. We predicated the snow would melt and found out the next morning we were correct. \r\nMonthly we explore a new unit. This month's unit is buildings. Our next project will focus on hand and eye coordination. We will be making buildings/structures in sand. We have many flip picture books for reference around our classroom with photos of the White House, Statue of Liberty, and our school just to name a few. \r\n\r\nIt's with great joy I thank you once again for helping me give my students a sensory center that is updated and developmentally pertinent. In that time, we have been very busy putting our materials to the test. In fifth grade, students utilized the scissors, crayons, and glue to create feelings charts to help put into perspective how vast their emotions can be and why it is important to understand what they are feeling. My middle schoolers have used the supplies the most so far. They have created posters depicting stages of pregnancy, flyers to prevent peer pressure, and thank you cards to our wonderful donors!\r\n Overall, my students were amazed by the donations.
