The group of students that will benefit from this project are a group of students that have a love for learning in a creative and innovative way. These students are interested in applying their technology skills in a purposeful manner. They enjoy activities that help them to further their learning and make deeper connections in a modern way.
A part of my goals as a teachers is to ingrain a love for literacy in my students.
A step to accomplishing this goal is having reading materials available to my students that are challenging, complex, and interesting to them. These students are college bound and want to take advantage of every chance for learning that is offered to them.
Flexible seating is a new phenomenon that I have tried to incorporate into my classroom a little more each year. As a student that was homeschooled, during both my elementary and middle school years I have had the chance to work in a comfortable environment. My classroom at home consisted of sitting at the dinner table if that is what I needed or laying on the floor in the living room or even sitting outside at the picnic table in my backyard. I had many choices for where I could complete the day's assignments and I believe I learned so much more because my concentration was on my work, rather than my discomfort in where I was sitting.
I have always wanted my students to feel at home in my classroom and I think flexible seating is a great opportunity for students to feel so.
These materials for flexible seating will help to open up opportunities for students outside of the more traditional desks. I believe that the best learning takes place in spaces where students feel the most comfortable!
