My school is Title I and located in a small North Carolina town. It has a diverse population in which the majority of the students are economically disadvantaged. Almost half of my students are also learning English as their second language. My students are full of enthusiasm about learning but often come to school without the necessary tools. As their teacher, I want to provide them with all of the resources they need in order to learn and be successful.
My Project
The Cossy STEM Learning Toy Engineering Construction Building Blocks and various other manipulatives would allow my students to engineer and construct different houses, bridges and vehicles. These hands-on activities would also encourage the students to plan and design their own creations. The Interlocking Building Set would actually enable my students to make geometric shapes.
All of these STEM manipulatives would give my students the opportunity to explore problem solving using math, science and engineering skills.
They would replace rote memorization and testing with methods that are dynamic, student-centered and project-based.
Through the hands-on learning experiences that these manipulatives will provide, my students will gain a deeper understanding of the concepts at hand. Also, the engagement that these activities will create will also afford them rich, high level thinking skills!
