Learning the Phases of the Moon

My Students

My students come from a small rural community in southeast Texas. Project funds for hands-on activities are not adequate for a 21st-century science classroom. These kids deserve better. They are a wonderful group with high expectations. It would be such a gift for my students to have everything that they need this year to reinforce all that I plan to teach them. They are respectful, inquisitive, and so excited for a year full of science and adventure. Both my students and I will be grateful for any project that is funded. So thankful for this opportunity through DonorsChoose.

My Project

For eighth grade science, students are required to learn about the phases of the moon. This can be confusing for students when they are trying to picture the sun, earth, moon position for a particular phase.

This moon phase activity will give my students the hands-on experience needed to understand how each phase of the moon is formed.

Students will be able to physically place the sun, earth, moon relationship so that they can see how each phase is formed.

I cannot find a better way for my kids to understand moon phases than through a hands-on project that lets them see and understand how each phase is formed.
