My Students

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I work with students from preschool through 5th grade with language impairments. This could be the year they master the language of time, so that they can clearly communicate with teachers, peers, and family!

I work with students from preschool through 5th grade who have speech and language impairments.

The students have a wide variety diagnoses ranging from Autism, ADHD, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Receptive and Expressive Language Disorders, and speech delays. They have demonstrated difficulty in grasping the language of time, so richly found in the calendar and seasons. This impacts their ability to accurately tell and retell stories, sequence events, write stories, share about their weekend, and understand and communicate basic math concepts. The students are eager to learn and need visual supports and manipulatives to gain the language of time.

My Project

The students I work with will be able to set up this calendar, talk about the seasons and weather, understand and communicate concepts (e.g., yesterday, tomorrow, next week, days of week, months of year, holidays), and tell and retell stories with proper sequence with these books and manipulatives. We will begin each speech therapy session reviewing the calendar, season, and making sentences using the calendar/time concepts.

By gaining a strong understanding of the concepts of time, my students will be able to accurately tell and retell using the language of time.

They will participate in classroom discussions throughout the curriculum, communicating clearly and effectively, like their typically developing peers.
