Were you one of those students that had trouble reading? Maybe you just didn't enjoy it or maybe you struggled with reading the words. My class of learning disabled students all struggle with reading. My goal is to inspire my students to read, read, read!
Students in my classroom are part of a lower economic community.
Many students come from a nearby Native American reservation. Most of the students take advantage of the free or reduced breakfast and lunch program. Their families are struggling financially and sometimes lack things such as books and supplies that their children need to succeed.
Additionally, my students are part of the special education program. They all have a learning disability, which impacts their abilities in reading, writing, and math. They are all completely capable of succeeding in school and going on to college one day, but they need to be taught in a different way than their general education peers.
My Project
My plan is to use technology to increase my students' skills in reading, writing and math and to make them 21st century learners. I currently have a few iPods in my room that my students use to practice their reading fluency and play math games to increase their basic fact knowledge. Recently, I attended a seminar and saw a school that took learning with iPods to a whole new level. My goal is to use these 3 iPods to put an iPod in each of my students’ hands to use for learning activities throughout the day.
This project could really change a lot for my students.
By engaging them more with technology, they will develop a love for learning, which is really the greatest gift anyone could give a child.
